When is the last time you climbed a tree? While most pick-your-own orchards discourage actual tree climbing, you’ll still feel like a kid again as you reach between fruit-laden branches to select the perfect apple, pear or plum.
Pick-your-own orchards are scattered across the country, and are no where near as popular as they deserve. For a bargain price you can wander among fruit trees and let your taste buds do the shopping. Bring along some friends and a picnic lunch, and you have the making of a perfect weekend afternoon. Pick-your-own orchards are almost always family-friendly, and often have harvest festivals throughout the season, timed to their various crops. Many welcome dogs as well, although you should call ahead just to be sure...
